The Need for Priesthood Warriors

Now that I’ve got this blog looking the way I want it and I’ve had a chance to post a couple of thoughts, I figured it was time for me to establish the WHY for this whole endeavor…or what I simply call:

THE BATTLE CRY

Be warned…this might sting a little (or a lot)…so don’t say I didn’t warn ya.

I have observed a disturbing trend among men lately and simply put, it is that we are incredibly lazy…and not in a good way.
We have become (notice I say ‘WE’) so complacent, sedentary and unwilling to exert ourselves in any way that we have turned our gender into the worst kind of whinny, bored, weak, sorry-sack-of-excuses that the history of the world has ever seen! WE HAVE BECOME WIMPS!  We have become the worst kind of ‘natural man’…the lazy kind.

The worst part of this is that we seem to be content to be that way.  Indeed it is celebrated in modern society and perpetuated in our media.

Here’s what is wrong with this kind of belief:

Right now, in this circumstance, satan doesn’t have to get us to do anything wrong…he doesn’t have to get us to be wicked at all.  We are so adept at doing NOTHING that he already has us wearing his chains like some kind of fashion statement.  We seem to be happy to oblige.  We seem happy to lie in the dust and curl up in the chains that bind us.

“Evil wins when good men do nothing” or better yet “Evil wins when good me do something else.”

Wait…it gets worse.

Satan takes advantage of this state of laziness and then makes us a tool in his evil scheme… As he gets us to laze about, lose confidence and neglect the gift of God within us, he then hooks us with pornography and other addictions that he knows will shatter the confidence of the women in our lives.  We become dim-witted accomplices in his wicked schemes and repeat his lies that ‘it doesn’t hurt anybody’.

Do you feel bad yet?

Here’s the kicker.  NONE of us are immune. It’s part of our nature.  A part that requires constant effort to overcome.

What do I mean by that?  Well, answer these questions: when you have free time, do you play violent video games or read your scriptures?  Do you watch hours of television or exercise?  How often do you take the time to meditate upon the things of God, or do you just put on your headphones and drown out the spirit with loud music?

I’m not saying that TV, video games and music are bad.  I enjoy those things myself.  But let’s be honest…they aren’t all that great either.  The better choice is to do those other things…the ones that he lazy part of us would rather not do.

Nearly 3000 years ago, Lehi told his sons “arise from the dust and be MEN…put on the armor of righteousness…shake of the CHAINS with which ye are bound…and arise from the dust” (2 Nephi 1:22-23)

Remember that that verse was written directly for our day and for our benefit, to get us up off the ground and BE MEN.  Strong, righteous, determined to honor our wives and children (present and future), our families and our priesthood.  Really, when you think about it, when Lehi delivered this message to his sons, what was the great sin that they were guilty of ?  They were lazy whiners!  They were complaining that they wanted to go back to ease and comfort.  They didn’t want to work or exert themselves or do ANYTHING that was hard. (“this is a hard thing”…)  WOW, how often do we do that? How often do we say ‘is it going to be fun?’ and if it isn’t we don’t want to do it?  Maybe we’re more like Laman and Lemuel than we’d like to admit.

So this is the battle cry for Priesthood Special Forces, for YOU.  It’s time to dig deep and find that ‘portion of the Spirit of God’ (1 Corinthians 3:16) that resides in you and get ready to shake off some chains.

That is the purpose of this BLOG, is to help you and for you to help me to become Mighty Men of God.  To turn wimps into Warriors! (Ether 12:27)

NO FEAR – NO WHINING – NO REGRETS

Are you ready?
